Medical Evaluation Boards
Important Note About Availability
Elrod Legal accepts Medical Evaluation Board / IDES matters only on an extremely limited, case-by-case basis. Because our primary practice is VA disability claims and appeals, we only take select MEB/PEB cases when we have availability and when the facts indicate we can meaningfully add value.
Are you facing a medical separation? There is a major difference between leaving the military with a one-time severance check and receiving a medical retirement and lifetime benefits. The IDES/MEB/PEB process moves quickly, and small mistakes can have long-term consequences—so it’s important to have an advocate with experience inside the system.
In many cases, Mr. Elrod can provide an estimate of what your VA ratings and benefits may look like based on your VA exam results—before the VA proposes them.
Questions we help you think through include:
- Is your referred condition combat-related and/or incurred in a combat zone?
- Will severance pay be recouped from your VA compensation?
- Is the DoD acknowledging each of your career-ending conditions?
- What will your pay and benefits look like once you’re officially separated or retired?
- Has the VA properly rated your unfitting conditions?
Active Duty (IDES or Legacy) — We can help.
Reserve or National Guard (IDES/MEB) — We can help.
TDRL Re-evaluation — We can help you fight to prevent benefits from being reduced without justification.
Mr. Elrod has years of IDES experience, including service as both an MEB Attorney and a PEB Attorney at multiple military installations. He has also handled IDES matters in civilian practice. Collectively, he has counseled more than 2,000 Soldiers and Veterans through this process.
Finally: don’t rely solely on a well-meaning friend who “went through it” and believes they understand the system. And while PEBLOs can be helpful for coordination, their role is not to provide legal strategy or advise you on the best course of action for your case.
